Marion Co., West Virginia, Commission proclaims October Domestic Abuse Awareness Month

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WV News) — The Marion County Commission officially proclaimed October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month during its Wednesday meeting, hoping to spread awareness for action that those in abusive relationships can take.
The proclamation is made by the commission every October, and Marion County Commissioner Randy Elliott said he hopes the county’s advocacy of the issue can save lives in conjunction with local nonprofit HOPE, Inc.
“We support HOPE, Inc.,” Elliott said. “Domestic violence is a terrible thing to have to occur anywhere, and the effects it has on Marion County and the people and children it affects. It affects a lot of people. We’re here to try to prevent it, most of all, and have a location for victims of domestic violence to go.”
